Chef Christian Werdenberg
DUSIT THANI
Born and raised in Allschwil, a small town in north-west of Switzerland – Christian knew already as a young boy that he wants to get involved with food in some way.

So – when the time to choose a profession approached – he went to the local baker, the local butcher and to some hotels in the near city of Basel, to help working and get an insight into the respective professions.

It was the “glitz & glamour” of the hotels and the exciting atmosphere in the kitchens that has caught his attraction to settle for a career as a cook.

After 3 years as an apprentice – with a weekly visit to the Technical College for Gastronomy – Christian graduated to be a “Cook” in 1987.

Right after – he went on to explore, learn and discover the real “cooks world” in different places in Switzerland before he was offered to work in Hong Kong, back in 1990, at the “Victoria Hotel”. “… it was not only my first job abroad, but my first time to get on an airplane and the first time in Asia – I will never forget that sight of HK’s skyscrapers, hustle and bustle and the incredible scent in the city … I felt on top of the world“ Chef Christian re-calls.

After working 4 years in Hong Kong as a Chef de Partie and Sous Chef, Christian was called to Manila for the first time, as Executive Sous Chef for the pre-opening of the New Word Hotel.

Having done this – he went back to his native Switzerland to join Hilton International in Basel and Zurich not only to work as an Executive Chef, but also to go back to school and sharpen his education. He spent his day-off for a year, to achieve the “Swiss Federal Diploma for Gastronomy Chefs” and an “Advanced Certificate in Food Safety Management”

After 5 years back in Switzerland – Asia was calling again and off he went to work in Japan. “Japan was probably one of my most intense experiences that influenced me not only on a professional – but also on a personal level….”

Following Tokyo was an assignment in Abu Dhabi before being offered to come back to Manila again to do be part of the re-branding team of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

The “Singapore Island Country Club” was next on the list prior being called back to the Sofitel flagship property in Beijing and now finally back in the Philippines at the Dusit Thani Manila !

Not for no reason, Chef Christian was titled “The Swiss Balibayan” in a recent news paper article…
